COMMON LAW ADMISSION TEST
A new common law
admission test (CLAT) for Eleven leading law universities has been finalized
under the aegis of the University Grants Commission. Aspiring lawyers will now
have to take the two-hour CLAT consisting of objective-type questions on
English language, general knowledge, basic mathematics, legal and logical
reasoning.
Why LAW?
Gone are the days when
black law suits, long robes and shabby courtrooms were the bread and butter of
lawyers. From posh corporate offices to jobs in commercial cinema and the
media, lawyers have moved many moons away from the conservative and now live very
much in the practical and real world. It is now a profession where one person
can make difference to the society.
What after law?
After completion one can
join any multinational corporate or a consulting firm, be a part of legal cells
of private and public sector companies, global audit and corporate firms and
many more. Earlier, students could opt for specialization in either civil or
criminal laws. Though, this concept has totally changed and now students can
opt to specialize from a variety of options offered like patent laws, corporate
laws, etc. A degree in law not only allows you practice as a lawyer in the
courts but also opens up varied career options in areas like administrative
services ,corporate management and legal services.
Law as a career
Law is one of the most popular career choices in our country
from the Gandhien era till today. Those whose generations have been into this
profession usually opt to study law, however, to become a lawyer it is not a
mandate to have a family background in law neither is it essential that you
belong to an affluent family rather dedication is the sole ingredient for the
success. Anyone can choose to study law as long as one has the passion and Zeal
for the same.
