About CTET / Other State TET

CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education. This test is significant for all aspiring teachers who wish to join as teacher in Central Government Schools like Kendriya Vidhyala Schools/ NVS etc. States who do not wish to conduct “State Teacher Eligibility Test” may consider the CTET score for employment of teachers. It is a competitive entrance exam for teachers, who would apply in government schools. CTET requires extensive preparation to pass the exam.

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) conducts the CTET exam.

The gateway to bring uniformity in the standard of teachers appointed is possible with the help of Teacher eligibility test. This results in delivering quality education to students in school. For the first time CTET started in 2011 by the central government as a mandatory requirement for anyone who is willing to teach in Central schools of India. From then on the states also have started conducting the examination for state aided schools. Now even some of the private schools have also started considering CTET- Teacher Eligibility Test as a major eligibility criterion in the selection process for teachers.

VALIDITY:

7 years from the date of declaration of its result for all categories.

RESTRICTION OF NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS:

no restriction on the number of attempts

APPLICABILITY:

·         The CTET shall apply to schools of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.) and schools under the administrative control of UT’s of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and NCT of Delhi.

·         CTET may also apply to the unaided private schools, who want to implement the option of considering the CTET.

·         Schools managed & owned by the State Government or local bodies and aided schools shall consider the TET conducted by the State Government. However, a State Government can also consider the CTET if it decides not to conduct the State TET for e.g. (UP-TET in UTTAR PRADESH, H-TET IN HARYANA).

CTET / Other State TET Paper Syllabus

There are two papers and both the papers have multiple choice questions with no negative marking.

Paper1 – This paper is for teachers, who intend to teach primary school, i.e. 1st to 4th. The course includes questions related to Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Language1 and 2.

Paper2 – This paper is for teachers, who are intending to teach secondary school, i.e. 5th to 8th. This paper covers similar subjects, except the last section, which consists of questions related specifically to Mathematics, Science, or Social Sciences.

CTET / Other State TET Eligibility

Teachers, who apply for classes 1st to 4th, should have secured at least 50percent in Senior Secondary or its equivalent. The applicant, who appears for a Diploma in Elementary Education or a 4-year B. Ed program is also eligible or a graduate and appearing for the finals of the two-year diploma in elementary education.

Teachers, who apply for classes 5th to 8th, should have secured 50percent in graduation and have done a one year B.Ed course.
